Ouseburn
Named as one of the ‘Coolest Neighbourhoods’ in the UK by Time Out magazine, Ouseburn, a project of over 300 homes and 20,000 sq ft of commercial space, has quickly become Newcastle’s cultural quarter with a thriving art scene, independent shops and nightlife.
Enabled through a joint venture between Newcastle City Council, Homes England and PfP igloo, the project is transforming an area held back over many years by vacant sites, into a vibrant residential neighbourhood, supporting a further economic and social benefit.
The riverside development consists of six phases: The Malings, Steenberg’s Yard, Malmo Quay, Spillers Quay, Glasshouses and Maling Street, with the last two phases due to be delivered by 2025.
As part of the residential-led development, igloo has established a community fund to support collaborative community activities across the wider neighbourhood, managed by the residents and businesses that take occupation in each phase.
Ouseburn – Malmo Quay
The Malmo Quay site has a prominent location on Newcastle’s famous Quayside and sits at the meeting point of two rivers, the Tyne and Ouseburn.
Renowned Swedish architect, White Arkitekter, has designed a high-quality residential-led development that incorporates extensive public realm and landscaping improvements that enhance the amenity and access along the river for pedestrians and cyclists.
With a focus on sustainability and community, the designs for Malmo Quay include 58 new homes, outdoor seating areas and strategically located commercial uses that will not only make it a great place to live but a great place to visit and enjoy.
