Stephenson Quarter

500,000 sq ft
Mixed use

Arguably one of Newcastle’s most historic sites and located just behind the main rail gateway, this 4-hectare mixed use site was once home to the Robert Stephenson & Co Locomotive Works.

The Stephenson Quarter is adjacent to Newcastle Central Station and set to become a leading office and knowledge district. A successful phase one is already complete, with a new 4* hotel, multi-storey car park, high spec conference/music venue and fully occupied Grade A office space. Phase two is underway with a business-focused University Technical College, which opened in September 2018.

Significant progress has been made on the iconic Pattern Shop redevelopment with plans to unveil the £8.7m office scheme this year. The three-storey workshop (in a grade II listed building) will be transformed into an eco-friendly commercial centre, housing small and medium sized businesses in the creative and digital sectors. It is hoped up to 300 people will eventually occupy the low carbon, low energy building which will offer more than 3,000 square metres of flexible workspace with southerly views across the River Tyne.

Further plans for the wider site will be unveiled in early 2023.

Immediate opportunities exist for further mixed used development set in landscaped surroundings and adjacent to historic listed buildings.
