Changing face of retail – the future of the city centre

Tuesday 15 March 2022 15:30-16:15

Invest Newcastle, Stand C19.C

This event will explore the changing face of retail – a dynamic and fast-paced environment that has undergone significant change and continues to evolve in a post-covid world. Many UK cities, including Newcastle have used the demand for recovery from covid as an opportunity to reinvent a destination and inject life into city centres.

Customer experience is a vital component to urban generation and placemaking. With the decline of the High Street in the face of the global pandemic, are people now looking for new experiences and culture? What role do events play?

Newcastle has been maximising ‘meanwhile space’ opportunities within their retail core, using this as a catalyst for creativity, collaboration and placemaking, and has committed to a £50m transformation of the city centre.

Collaboration and solid private and public sector relationships have been instrumental in the evolution of their retail core and will continue to underpin the transformational vision and economic recovery plan, which will capitalise on the city’s vibrancy and welcoming nature and create a safer and healthier green city where businesses, residents and visitors can thrive.

Join national experts and the Newcastle’s public and private sector to hear more about the diverse world of retail property, challenges, opportunities and the impact on communities and cities.

Key speakers:

• Michelle Percy | Director of Place, Newcastle City Council

• Stephen Patterson, CEO, NE1
