MetroGreen- a new type of urban living
Wednesday 11 March 2020 10.00-10.45
Invest Newcastle, Stand C19.C
Join Cllr Martin Gannon for an introduction to MetroGreen, an ambitious project to transform brownfield land surrounding the intu Metrocentre into a sustainable new urban community of 2,000 homes.
There are attractive riverside residential sites to be developed (45 hectares available), offering opportunities for active waterfronts and panoramic views of the River Tyne. The area is rich in potential to shape a large new urban settlement that matches the living aspirations of North East people.
The Council is working in close partnership with a wide range of private and public interests to lever major infrastructure and housing investment. With a track record of delivering large-scale housing projects, the Council will use its commercial expertise to facilitate investment and regulatory powers to increase planning certainty.
The Metrocentre sits at the heart of MetroGreen and will continue to have a vital role in the regeneration and growth of the area. The reconstruction of this area will support the future sustainability and growth of Europe’s largest out of town shopping centre with leisure and other ancillary use opportunities.
There will also be an update on the game changing £260m events and conferencing complex on Gateshead Quays and developments in central Gateshead including the RIBA supported Future Places programme.
