As Strategic Director Peter sits on the Corporate Management Team responsible for the corporate management of the Council.

With specific responsibility for Economy, Innovation and Growth Peter oversees a multi-disciplinary Group that leads on the delivery of the Council’s Economic Development Strategy.

The Group has responsibility for Business, Employment and Skills, Climate Change, Compliance, Planning & Transport and delivers the Council’s capital programme and major projects.

The Group includes an Energy Team responsible for managing the Council’s energy requirements and delivering the District Energy Scheme and other innovative energy solutions.

Peter is also Project Director for The Sage NewcastleGateshead, a £350m project comprising a 12500 capacity arena, conference and exhibition centre together with associated hotels, retail, food & beverage on the south bank of the Tyne. The site sits between Sage Gateshead and Baltic; The Centre for Contemporary Art.

Peter originally joined Gateshead Council in 1998 as Assistant Director in the Department of Architectural Services where he headed the Council’s Major Project Team and was Client representative and Project Manager for Sage Gateshead and Baltic; The Centre for Contemporary Art.

On completion of Sage Gateshead in December 2004 Peter took up the post as Head of Design and subsequently, Service Director Council Housing, Design and Technical Services.

Peter graduated from the School of Architecture, University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1984.
